What is the Cause of Breast Cancer?
- We do not yet know what causes breast cancer. There is a great deal of research under way to learn more. The American Cancer Society is funding millions of dollars in breast cancer research, supporting efforts to investigate any potential cause of the disease.
- Nobody knows for certain why some women get breast cancer and others do not.
- For every disease, there are certain risk factors that increase the likelihood of the disease.
- While the cause of breast cancer is not yet known, we do know that there are a number of specific factors that put women at risk for the disease.
